Fingerstyle Guitar magazine

Postby michaelj53 on Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:34 am

HI,

About a month ago I ordered a back issue of Fingerstyle Magazine, which they acknowledged right away by e-mail. They took my money but since then, nothing. I've tried calling - no one ever answers and I've left messages that have not been returned. No response to my e-mails eother.

Anybody know what is up with them? I've never dealt with them before so this may be normal.

Thanks,
Michael

I sent them an e-mail last week asking, "Whassup?". So far no response. Looks like their editorial office is in one state, their subscription and back issues office is in another. If the magazine is a one or two person operation (like Ed Benson's "Just Jazz Guitar"), any personal issues like major illness, finances, or someone quitting can stop things pretty quickly.

The problem has been resolved - I received the back isuue I had ordered. No explanation other than they got behind in their mailings.

It seems like a nice magazine - lots of music published and a CD every month. A bit expensive $8.95 in issue newstand but $5.00 an issue for a years subscription.

They cover a wide range of music, including classical.

I signed up for Fingerstyle last year. They are indeed a beautiful magazine - but in over a year I've received 3 issues and only one of them this year. In the past I've written them and after several emails received a response but they seem to be a little disorganized and "not quite connected" to say the least...

As I understand it, they are under new management. Maybe things may become more regular soon!

Just for grins I checked their website ( http://www.fingerstyleguitar.com ).

Up pops an autostart YouTube link to a piece by Andy McKee. Very interesting multi-technique guy: percussive slaps on the guitar body, overhand fretting & tapping, strumming, probably some kind of open tuning. AND he has short stubby fingers like me!

Probably won't replace having a hard copy of the mag in your hands, but until your wayward issue arrives..... :-)

I am a huge Andy McKee fan! I have played a couple of his songs for the club. That particular song is called "Drifting", and is in DADGAD tuning. Very fun song to play.
