Lehmann double top

The Double Top Guitar
This is a concept several luthiers have used to enrich the tone of their guitars with extra overtones and fullness of tone. The idea is that there is another spruce plate inside the soundbox that acts like a sympathetic resonator. The placement of the second top also breaks up the air columns inside the box. The result is that there is another dimension to the sound. It is hard to describe, but it's kind of like gentle reverb in a natural way. The photo shows the inside of the guitar body before the top was put on. Cool. eh? I can't wait to try it again!

Very cool, Bernie! We could make a sub forum just for you and call it The Luthier's Corner, if you'd like...

Out of curiosity; Do you think it would benefit from having the second top closer to the actual top? Or maybe dead center? I just imagine that more air moving around it would allow it to be more responsive. It seems to me (an uneducated, inexperienced, self-proclaimed guitar nut) like being that close to the back would act more like a second back than a second top. I wouldn't know the sonic advantages or disadvantages of either. What do you think?
