Spicing up scales

Came across in interesting article by Matt Warnock, a jazz guitar instructor at an Indiana college:

He has some neat ideas to liven up both practice and improvising.

Thanks! Good encouragement to do the basics and sound psychology too - reward yourself for doing scales by making them a bit more interesting and creative - I've found that to work with things like etudes too. Right now I'm in the midst of "going back to basics" with a classical instructor so I'm doing lots of Giuliani, Shearer, et. al. I've got this one Shearer etude that really lends itself to an almost "operatic" treatment - without actually changing the notes to be played.
