Next Meeting November 16 at Abeline's

Postby tagone on Thu Oct 22, 2009 2:55 pm

♫ This meeting will begin promptly at 7pm, November 16, once again at Abeline with a talk by Jerry Carter about his recent trip to the Martin factory in Pennsylvania.

• About 7:45 there will be a free workshop ”Playing Effortlessly” for guitar players as well as other string players by physical therapist Fred Onufryk. This introductory workshop will help you discover that you can play more intelligently, with greater ease and comfort. Expand your ability of how you sense, feel, think and move. Relieve pain and avoid overuse injury. Breathe more easily, and gain greater confidence in your playing. Think It’s Impossible???? It’s not!!!

• The workshop will include a movement excercise based on Awareness Through Movement lessons from the Feldenkrais Method, as well a demonstration of hands on work. Fred Onufryk works as a physical therapist, and has taught Moving Effortlesly for over 20 years. He has taught at the Eastman School of Music for the past 10 years and has worked with many jazz, classical, and pop musicians with great success.

• Fred will ask for a few volunteers to play both before and after the exercises. So, not everyone needs to bring a guitar for this workshop. Be prepared to participate in low-impact exercises. The workshop and meeting will conclude about 9:30pm, a bit later than usual. Although this workshop is free, contributions are welcome as always.
